South Dakota Highway 12 Bridge Dedicated to Veteran Bruce E. Ruby

Bridge Dedication Ceremony at the Scherr-Howe Event Center in Mobridge, SD

On Monday, August 30 the State Highway 12 Bridge was dedicated to Private Bruce E. Ruby as part of a South Dakota initiative to honor our veterans who died while serving their country. Bruce E. Ruby, a decorated veteran from Ipswich, SD, was killed in action in France on November 9th, 1944.

In attendance for the Ceremony were two of Private Ruby's Daughters, South Dakota Lt. Governor Larry Rhoden, the Mobridge Legion, and several citizens of the Mobridge area. Of the many who spoke, one included Lt. Governor Rhoden who stated over 3,000 South Dakotans have given their lives for this nation, and "Dedicating bridges to these veterans is a simple, yet profound, gesture of remembrance."

Private Bruce Ruby is survived by his sister who resides in Spearfish, SD, two of his daughters, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The State Highway 12 Bridge is the now the 17th bridge to be dedicated to a veteran in South Dakota.
